Mala Stories: Katherine's True Meditation
Today I am so excited to share the first instalment from a new series we are doing called The Mala Stories. We have asked some Mamas we totally admire to share a bit of their lives and journey of Motherhood.
The Mala Stories highlight women that use motherhood as a catalyst for personal growth, strength, and connection. Showing that Motherhood isn’t something that robs you of your time and identity, but rather is something that brings to the surface a deeper connection to yourself, your community and the universe. That motherhood can be a time when you shed your insecurities, and self-doubt to step fully into the woman you are meant to be.
Today we are so excited to share the first instalment from Katherine of Motherhood Rising and Iron Wood and Wool. Put the kids down to bed, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy Katherine's soul stirring meditation on connection, strength and truth.
A swift dance of words illuminated white.
These words jump out at me as I see my physical self sitting at a desk in front of a large projection screen.
Doubt.
Fear.
I can’t.
I’m Tired.
White and bright.
These words dance and taunt.
This is where the strength that I have gathered and stored for years - comes out to save me from myself.
This is where my logic and my heart collide and turn off the projector.
I believe in myself as a woman, as someone that will change the world, I believe in my strength as a writer and creator. This moment of meditation within myself is guided by my desire to live my life in a positive way. This is proactive positivity that I have come to know and learn through trial and error- through wading through the thick self doubt that has been fed into my roots since I was a young girl. Seeing the surface of the ground and breaking through has shown me the sky, the moon, and the rays of the sun - promise of growth and transformation through this healing. This breaking through.
Having a physical connection to this peace within has created a grounding element to this beautiful process. I run my fingers across the smooth surface over and over again and I bring my awareness to a place of quiet and still. I process each individual fear and hope with a stroke of my fingertip and a deep breath in… and out. I speak to myself gently and with ease - sure and confident in this truth that hides beneath the heavy negative that settles in after a deep meditation.
My True Mama Mala lays softly against my chest as it flows with each breath.
I wait for the quiet and still to reach each muscle in my body - my muscles relax.
I am free.
