My Motherhood: Anna
For the My Motherhood series, we ask different women the same series questions about mindfulness and motherhood to see what works for other women, but also to show how even though we may be different, we are all in this together.
Today I'm thrilled to have Anna sharing her journey about motherhood with us. Anna designs amazing clothing for the vegan witch mama. You can find her designs here. And make sure to follow her on Instagram and Facebook to see what she'll be doing next!
What does your perfect day look like?
My perfect day would start with a homemade nutritious breakfast with my family. Followed by some family yoga or nature hike. Having lunch at our favourite local vegan cafe would be so special. We mostly cook at home so eating out is a special occasion for us. We would then spend some time relaxing at home maybe take a nap. We love to spend time together at home as a family. Our home base is very important to us. And we enjoy a simple life. We also love food! So a home cooked meal for dinner where we all help preparing the meal would be an excellent way to end the day. After sharing a delicious home cooked meal, we will watch a movie together or play a game or dance to some positive music!
Do you have any daily rituals you use to center yourself?
My daily rituals include something nutritious to eat such as a green juice or smoothie, tea or coffee. Along with some energy work such as self reiki, chakra aligning, tarot cards or runes to balance and open my energy channels. I enjoy reading mostly books about witchcraft, spirituality and other self help non fiction books. Sometimes I allow time for pampering while my daughter naps. I might do a facial, paint my nails or do some yoga. I don’t always make time for self care, but when I do it makes a huge difference in my energy and self esteem. I believe it makes me a better mother.
How do you make time for the different facets of your life?
I find it hard to make time for myself. My daughter naps for an hour or two in the middle of the day and I have to decide how I want to spend that time. Either read or write in my journal, I may even decide to nap with her and catch up on some sleep. Either way, I really enjoy having that quiet time for myself. Some days I leave Lotus with my partner or mother to go catch a yoga class or do some shopping by myself. Asking for help is sometimes hard for me but when I do it allows me time and space to find myself as a woman and then come back a better mother.
Do you have any special family rituals?
Our family rituals include baking and cooking together, spending time in nature, taking family road trips and simply talking and spending our downtime together. We also honour the changing seasons by incorporating small celebrations on the solstices and equinoxes.
What is the best advice you have ever given or received about motherhood?
My mom always tells me to enjoy each precious moment. She reminds me how fast it goes by and you’ll miss this time of your life. I know she’s right. Whenever I’m woken up in the middle of the night or feeling annoyed by constant whining I take a deep breath and smile at my girl knowing that I will miss this.
What is your favourite part of motherhood?
My favourite part of motherhood is the day to day joy of watching her grow and learn and explore her world. She makes me laugh and smile everyday and my heart wants to burst with love just looking at her. She is my greatest teacher. Teaching me patience, understanding, empathy and allows me space to examine my own beliefs about life and spirituality.
